Collection: ME - Eddy & Eddy Designs - Martha Eddy

I began quilting in the late ‘70’s with baby quilts and buntings and even a machine appliquéd wall hanging or two. But then came an almost 12 year break for children, a career in bio-research and life on a small farm.

My sister Marjorie re-introduced me to the delights of creative quilting. Not only did she show me the radical new cutting system: the rotary cutter/ruler/mat-but ALSO took me to a real quilt shop! An “ah-ha!” moment! Wow! Fabrics had been evolving-what had I missed?

Friends and I began to gather at lunch hour to talk-talk-talk all things quilts. We exchanged squares of Christmas fabric for a scrappy star quilt. Another “ah-ha!” moment! Seven quilts-same fabrics, same pattern, each completely individual. We were hooked. All of us remain avid quilters and still gather for road trips to shows and classes.

Since retiring, I’ve found a niche at the Carriage Quilt Shoppe in East Aurora, NY. Owners Linda and Sue have encouraged me to teach and put my ideas into patterns. Along with teaching techniques, I urge my students not to get stuck ’copying’ quilts they admire, but rather to “make it your own!” I hope to instill confidence for them to use learned skills to personalize their creation-that’s when the fun begins!

Eddy & Eddy Designs” is a tribute to my husband, daughter and son who all cheerfully lend their talents and critiques to new projects. And, of course, to Oscar the Cat, who appears in the my logo and handles all supervisory duties.
